Since the initial incidence of human infection in 1997, the number of documented cases where outbreaks among birds in Asia have caused death among humans continues to grow e.g. Hong Kong, Vietnam and Indonesia. As a result there is now substantial worldwide interest in the H5N1 strain of avian influenza.

Our new purified recombinant haemagglutinin antigen of avian influenza subtype H5N1, Code BS 6134, is potentially suitable for the serological detection of antibodies to the HA surface antigen of H5N1 by ELISA and Western Blot methods.

A suggested protocol for Western Blot incorporating this new antigen is available on request.
